There are no physical symptoms associated with an elevated C-reactive protein level as it is not a specific test. The test should be taken as a risk assessment for underlying inflammatory diseases. C-reactive Protein (CRP) is a blood marker used to detect inflammation in the body which is indicative of other conditions or infections and can identify deterioration or damage that you may not be aware of.
You may have no symptoms of disease or infection, however, if your CRP results are high, it may indicate that you have an increased risk for degenerative disorders, based on results that are indicative of inflammation in the body.
You should take the test if:
- You are at risk for chronic inflammatory diseases including rheumatoid arthritis, lupus or vasculitis
- You are at risk for Crohn's disease
- You are at risk for bowel disorders
- You are overweight
- You require a risk assessment for cardiovascular diseases
