Our home bowel cancer screening test can help identify the presence of cancerous or precancerous growths in the bowel by detecting blood that is invisible to the naked eye. This test detects human haemoglobin in the stool and so other sources of blood, such as from your diet will not cause a positive result.

Colon cancer will often present no symptoms and can be fatal if diagnosed late. Should symptoms occur, they may include:

  • Blood in your stool
  • A change in bowel habits
  • Bleeding from the anus
  • Unexplained pain in your stomach
  • A lump in your abdomen
  • Reduced appetite or unexplained weight loss
  • Dizziness, tiredness or breathlessness

The purpose of this test is to identify the presence of blood in the stool, which may be invisible to the naked eye. If you have already noted blood in the stool you should talk to your physician.

It is recommended that you start regular screening at the age of 45, or younger if you have a family history of colon cancer.

You should also consider getting tested if:

  • you are experiencing symptoms of colon cancer
  • you have a history of adenomas (benign tumors)
  • you have inflammatory bowel disease (IBD)
  • you have ulcerative colitis
  • you have Crohn's disease
  • you have Peutz-Jeghers Syndrome (PJS)
  • you have MYH-associated polyposis (MAP)
  • you have Lynch Syndrome (hereditary non-polyposis colon cancer)
  • you have type 2 diabetes
  • you have undergone radiation therapy
