Still have questions?
Here are some questions we usually get about LetsGetChecked. If you would like yours answered, please contact us.
Erectile dysfunction (ED) is when a man has difficulty getting and keeping an erection firm enough to have sex. It can also be called impotence.
Erection problems are very common, particularly as you age. Approximately 1 in 10 men will experience ED in their lifetime. Occasional erectile dysfunction (less than 1 in 5 times) is usually nothing to worry about. It may be caused by stress, tiredness, anxiety, or drinking too much alcohol. Illicit drugs such as amphetamines, barbiturates, cocaine, marijuana, methadone, nicotine, and opiates (such as oxycodone) can also cause ED. However, if ED occurs more frequently (for example, more than half the time), it may be caused by an underlying medical condition, such as diabetes, heart disease, or mental health issues, such as anxiety or depression. It is important to have a full assessment with your healthcare provider to rule out underlying causes. Treatment of these conditions can improve ED, as well as improving your overall health. Certain prescription medications may contribute to ED. These include medications to treat heart disease, high blood pressure, depression, Parkinson’s disease, cancer, epilepsy/ seizure disorders, and stomach ulcers, as well as some muscle relaxants, tranquilizers, steroids, and hormone replacement. Do not stop taking any medication without consulting your healthcare provider.
Alcohol and illicit drugs such as amphetamines, barbiturates, cocaine, marijuana, methadone, nicotine, and opiates (such as oxycodone) can cause erectile dysfunction and should be avoided. If you experience ED and think that it may be a result of a prescription medication you are using, do not stop taking the medication. Instead, talk to your doctor about your symptoms. Prescription medications that may cause ED include:
Heart medications such as those that remove excess fluid (diuretics) or treat irregular heart rhythms (antiarrhythmics)
Blood pressure medications (anti-hypertensives)
Anti-histamines
Anti-depressants
Medications to treat Parkinson's Disease
Tranquilizers
Muscle relaxants
Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs
Some medications used to treat stomach ulcers (histamine H2-receptor antagonists)
Hormones
Chemotherapy medications
Medications to treat prostate cancer
Anti-seizure medications
Please be aware that there are other medications not listed that may also cause erectile dysfunction. It is important to make your healthcare provider aware of all prescription and non-prescription drugs you are taking.
If erectile dysfunction is caused by an underlying health condition (see FAQ “What causes ED?”), treating the condition will often also help erection problems. It’s also important to look at lifestyle factors that can contribute to ED - these include smoking, alcohol, non-prescription medications, stress, and tiredness. For those who are suitable, there are a number of treatment options for ED. LetsGetChecked offer 2 FDA-approved oral medications (tablets). Research shows that 70% of men will benefit from treatment with this kind of medication. However, there are important reasons why this medication may not be suitable for you. Please see FAQ “Is this suitable for me?” If this medication isn’t suitable for you and you’re concerned about ED, talk to your healthcare provider about alternative options.
Sildenafil and tadalafil work by inhibiting (blocking) a chemical messenger called phosphodiesterase (PDE5). This helps to relax blood vessels and increase blood flow to the penis resulting in an erection in response to sexual stimulation.
Generic medications contain the same active ingredients as branded medications and work in exactly the same way. Tadalafil is the generic drug name for Cialis. The cost of generic medications is lower as manufacturers don’t need to invest in researching and developing a new drug. All our generic medications are FDA-approved and just as effective as the well-known brands.
Tadalafil can either be taken daily (at a low dose) or as needed before sexual activity (at a slightly higher dose). Allow 30 minutes to an hour for it to take effect. It can be taken with or without food. Effects can last for 24-36 hours. You can only take one dose per day and you shouldn’t take it with alcohol or certain medications (see FAQ “is ED medication suitable for me?”).
Please read all information that is provided with this medication.
