Fatty acids prevent irregular heartbeats, reduces the risk of clotting by making the blood less sticky, protects the walls of blood vessels from damage and helps to improve cholesterol by increasing levels of good cholesterol (HDL) and decreasing levels of bad cholesterol (LDL).

Symptoms of Omega 3/6 Deficiency may include:

  • Irritability
  • Dry skin and hair
  • Brittle nails
  • Poor attention and/or concentration
  • Fatigue
  • Heightened sleep disturbances
  • Joint pain and discomfort

The Omega test examines the blood for arachidonic acid (ARA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), by identifying levels of ARA and DHA, the test can determine whether you have an optimal ratio of Omega 3 and 6 in the system for good health.

You should take the test if:

  • You are curious about eating for health
  • You notice that your hair, skin, and nails are poor quality
  • You feel tired all the time with no explanation
  • You can't concentrate on an ongoing basis
  • You have a family history of heart infection
  • You follow a vegan or vegetarian diet
  • You feel chronically fatigued

The sample must be taken fasted, before 10am on a Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday and returned on the same day.

Fasting means that you collect the sample in the morning before you have breakfast. You can still drink water when fasting. Always follow the advice of your doctor with regards to fasting, particularly if you have an underlying medical condition.

  • Omega 3

Omega 3 fatty acids are the "good fats" found in oily fish, nuts and seeds that can help to protect the body against heart infection, high blood pressure, cholesterol and rheumatoid arthritis.

  • Omega 6

Omega 6, when eaten in moderation as part of a healthy diet is good for you. Too much omega 6 can cause high cholesterol, high blood pressure, and heart infection. Omega 6 is found in polyunsaturated foods such as butter and vegetable oils.
