Prostate cancer is one of the most common cancers in men worldwide. Prostate cancer will often present no symptoms in the early stages. If you have any concerns about prostate cancer, you should talk to your doctor.
Should symptoms occur, they may include:
- An increased need to urinate, especially at night
- A sudden need to urinate
- Feeling like the bladder has not emptied fully
- Difficulty starting or stopping a stream of urine
- Visible blood in semen and/or urine
- Unexplained weight loss
- Pain in the pelvis, thighs, and back
- Erectile dysfunction
The PSA (Prostate Specific Antigen) Test is a screening tool which can help detect signs of prostate cancer in the blood. A raised PSA level can occur due to non-cancerous enlargement or inflammation of the prostate. These conditions also require further investigation.
You can take the test if:
- You are over the age of 50
- You have a strong family history of prostate cancer
- You are experiencing symptoms related to prostate cancer
- You are overweight or obese
The test must be taken before 9am and returned on the same day.
Total Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA)
Total Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) refers to the total volume of PSA in the blood. PSA is found in semen and in the bloodstream.
Free Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA)
Free Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) refers to the amount of PSA in the blood that is not bound to other proteins. Free PSA levels are divided by total PSA to calculate the prostate specific antigen ratio.
Calculated Prostate Specific Antigen Ratio
Calculated Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) Ratio refers to total PSA versus free PSA levels. If you have a high PSA level and a low level of free PSA, it may be more likely that you have prostate cancer.

Activating the test connects you to the unique alphanumeric barcode within your LetsGetChecked test kit. The laboratory cannot process your sample if the test kit is not activated and linked to you.
LetsGetChecked has a team of physicians who will review your order and results. Our nursing team is on standby throughout the testing process and, if you test positive, you will receive a call to discuss your results and treatment options.
Please ensure that the sample is collected before 9am and returned immediately using the carrier method provided within the test kit. Each test includes a prepaid shipping envelope to return your samples to the laboratory.
Please do not collect or return samples on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday.
