The Iron Test determines if you are at risk of iron deficiency anemia or iron overload, known as hemochromatosis.

Symptoms of iron deficiency anemia may include:

  • Cold hands and feet
  • Brittle nails
  • Cravings for non-food sustenance such as dirt or ice
  • Extreme fatigue and weakness
  • Pale skin
  • Shortness of breath
  • Headaches
  • Sore or swollen tongue

The Iron Test determines if you are at risk of iron deficiency anemia or iron overload, known as hemochromatosis.

Symptoms of iron overload (hemochromatosis) may include:

  • Abdominal pain
  • Joint pain
  • Fatigue
  • Weakness
  • Loss of libido
  • Diabetes

Iron is required for the production of red blood cells and removing carbon dioxide from the body.

You should take the test if:

  • You are suffering from an iron deficiency
  • You are suffering from hemochromatosis
  • You are vegetarian
  • You frequently donate blood
  • You are suffering from fatigue, low energy or low mood
  • You have a family history of hemochromatosis
  • You are from Northern Europe, you are more likely to suffer from hemochromatosis

The test must be taken fasted, before 9am and returned on the same day.

  • Ferritin

    Ferritin stores iron in the body. Ferritin is tested to identify the storage capacity of iron in the body.

  • Transferrin Saturation

    Transferrin is the primary carrier of proteins around the body, it is formed in the liver and the main function is transporting iron around the body.

Activating the test connects you to the unique alphanumeric barcode within your LetsGetChecked test kit. The laboratory cannot process your sample if the test kit is not activated and linked to you.

LetsGetChecked has a team of physicians who will review your order and results. Our nursing team is on standby throughout the testing process and, if you test positive, you will receive a call to discuss your results and treatment options.

Please ensure that the sample is collected before 9am and returned immediately using the carrier method provided within the test kit. Each test includes a prepaid shipping envelope to return your samples to the laboratory.

Please do not collect or return samples on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday.

All samples are disposed of following analysis.
