Know your symptoms
The World Health Organization estimates that 2 billion people suffer from a vitamin deficiency globally.

-
Vitamin B12
Deficiency: Symptoms of a deficiency can include fatigue, frequent diseases, changes to your tongue, mouth ulcers and pins and needles.
Excess: To date, studies have not identified serious adverse events of high vitamin B12 levels when included as part of a balanced diet in healthy individuals.
-
Vitamin D
Deficiency: Symptoms of a deficiency can include fatigue, bone pain, muscle weakness, and mood changes. A lack of vitamin D can lead to long term bone problems such as osteomalacia or osteoporosis.
Excess: Excess levels can be toxic and impact calcium levels, causing vomiting, muscle weakness, kidney stones, and other serious health complications.
-
Vitamin E
Deficiency: A deficiency can cause nerve and muscle damage, vision problems, and impair the immune system.
Excess: There is limited research relating to the impact of excess vitamin E, however some studies have shown that there could be an increased risk of bleeding as a result of excess levels.
Vitamins are necessary for energy production, blood clotting, and boosting our ability to fight disease from viruses and bacteria. These tests can help you to identify key imbalances so you can take steps to improve your health and immune system.
You should take the Essential Vitamin test if:

- You have recently excluded a particular food group from your diet
- You are over 50 years of age
- You are experiencing symptoms of a deficiency*
- You have a condition that may impact the absorption of nutrients such as celiac or Crohn's disease
- You have problems absorbing nutrients from your diet
- You have a medical condition that impacts how you absorb vitamins such as an intrinsic factor deficiency
*Talk to your physician about any symptoms that you are experiencing.
The test must be taken before 10 a.m on a Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday and returned on the same day.
Please note that we have not yet validated test results for vitamin B12 for those under the age of 22.
