C-reactive protein (CRP), which is made by the liver, is one of the most sensitive markers of inflammation. A high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) test is more sensitive than a standard CRP test and can detect slight increases in CRP levels.
Cholesterol build-up is associated with low-grade inflammation which can be detected with this test. This CRP home test helps determine your risk of cardiovascular disease or coronary artery disease, as well as the risk of a second heart attack. Those with a high level of hs-CRP who have had a heart attack are more likely to have another event than those with a normal level.

Lifestyle factors such as diet, physical activity levels, alcohol consumption and smoking
CRP levels may be elevated for many reasons. These can include infection, recent surgery, or an inflammatory condition. Strenuous exercise, certain medications such as statins, NSAIDs, and hormone replacement therapy can impact your CRP levels. This CRP test is not suitable if you have a condition associated with chronic inflammation or elevated CRP levels such as rheumatoid arthritis or inflammatory bowel disease.
The CDC and the American Heart Association (AHA) recommend for elevated results, that the test is repeated after a two-week period.

Both of these test types measure c-reactive protein (CRP) levels in the blood, but they are used for very different purposes.
A hs-CRP test is used to help determine the risk of cardiovascular disease in apparently healthy people. It measures CRP in the range from 0.5 to 10 mg/L.
A standard CRP test is used to evaluate people who have signs and symptoms of an infection or chronic inflammatory disease such as rheumatoid arthritis. It measures CRP in the range from 10 to 1000 mg/L.
If you have signs or symptoms of an infection or chronic inflammation then the hs-CRP test is not suitable for you as the results cannot be used to accurately interpret your heart disease risk. Please see our FAQ “Who is this test not suitable for?” for additional information.
The hs-CRP test is not suitable if:
You are under 18
You are pregnant
You have an infection
You have an inflammatory condition such as rheumatoid arthritis
You have an autoimmune condition
You have inflammatory bowel disease
You have recently had surgery or an injury
You are at an increased risk of fainting / loss of consciousness due to blood sample collection, including if you have an arrhythmia, history of a fainting or near fainting episode related to a blood test (vasovagal syncope) or fear of blood.
You have a bleeding disorder, or are taking medication that increases the risk of bleeding including (but not limited to) untreated hemophilia or use of blood thinning medications.
You have impaired lymphatic circulation in both upper limbs.
You have a skin disorder or condition that may result in poor healing, an increased risk of disease or skin ulceration - including (but not limited to) Raynaud’s, Scleroderma, peripheral vascular disease or peripheral neuropathy.
Note: It may be more difficult to collect a sample if you have hard or callused skin on your fingertips.
Certain medications such as NSAIDs (e.g. ibuprofen, diclofenac), statins, or hormone replacement therapy may lower or raise your CRP levels.
Activating the test connects you to the unique alphanumeric barcode within your LetsGetChecked sample collection kit. The laboratory cannot process your sample if the test is not activated and linked to you. You should only activate your test when you are ready to take your sample.

Please collect your sample in the morning on a Monday-Friday and returned on the same day using the carrier method provided within the sample collection kit. Each of our health tests includes a prepaid shipping envelope to return your samples to the laboratory.
